On Thursday July 2, at 7:30 pm, Outermost Community
Radio WOMR 92.1 FM is very proud to present CATIE CURTIS in a
benefit for Cape Cod’s locally programmed, nonprofit, community
radio station. This exclusive public appearance by the
award-winning songwriter and singer will take place in WOMR’s public
performance space on the second floor of the Schoolhouse in the East
End of Provincetown (494 Commercial Street).
From the first time she picked up a guitar -- given
to her gratis by a neighbor who asked only that she promise to learn
to play it -- the native of rural southern Maine has used music as a
sort of sonic superglue to bring people together. On her 1995 label
debut Truth From Lies, Curtis recorded songs as varied
as Radical (“I just want to hold your hand, I don't feel like
making some big stand, 'Cause I'm not being radical when I kiss you,
I don't love you to make a point”) and Dad’s Yard (“…if you
need something when times get hard, you can probably find it in my
Dad's yard, and if you need hope if you're coming apart, you can
surely find it in my Dad's heart”). Her 1997 follow-up, Catie
Curtis, was named Album of the Year at the Gay and Lesbian
American Music Awards.
Her intoxicating brand of folk pop music, smart and enduring lyrics,
and engaging personality have carried Curtis through steady growth
over the course of her career. With 9 albums and recognition that
includes a 2005 International Songwriting Competition Grand Prize,
Curtis has proven that she's the real deal: a musician with the kind
of raw talent and artistic maturity that makes her a force to be
reckoned with. Now the mother of two little girls, Curtis appears
for the first time on behalf of OuterMost Commnuity Radio, WOMR.
(Her newly recorded, soon to be released, string band
style version of Dad’s Yard has just been made available, complete
with artwork, as a free internet download for a home-made Father’s
Day card.)
