Sam Holmstock hosts “Africa Oye” on the first Sunday of the month from 6-9 PM and “The Gulf Coast and Beyond” every second Sunday from 6-9 PM. Hard Drivin’ Louisiana Zydeco for 2 steppin’ is the most of it, with a little Cajun thrown in so the dancers can catch their breath. The Beyond part comes at the end, Afro Cuban Rumba, Haitian Rara, West African Sabar, Dununba and Djembe drumming. All of the things that made Louisiana musics what they are today.
Sam is a percussionist specializing in African and Latin percussion and performs with The Cape Cod African Dance and Drum Ensemble. He teaches African Drumming at Cape Cod Community College and the Cotuit Center for the Arts. He also plays trombone with The Seaside Brass Quartet. Sam first got into radio in the early eighties as a public affairs producer at WXPN in Philadelphia, home of the syndicated radio show “World Cafe”. He then went on to a very part time thing at WMVY on Martha’s Vineyard in the late 80′s programming Jazz, World and Shtuff on Sunday mornings. He currently programs local and world music at WKKL 90.7 in West Barnstable making “The Gulf Coast and Beyond” and “Africa Oye” at WOMR the icing on the cake.
