Stay Tuned

    STAY TUNED: The WOMR.Org  Newsletter ~ Year 1, Issue 7 ~  June 2010

WFMR, 91.3, Orleans
Everyone is anxious about the progress on the repeater. As we mentioned last month, Nautel is building our transmitter and it won’t be available until late July. We continue to creep in the direction of getting the repeater on-line, but progress is still slow, though steady. Our engineer, Jeff Rosenberg of Modulation Magic, Inc., has completed on-site measurements and is awaiting quotes to present to us. We hope that occurs any day now. Once we receive and approve the quote, we can order the antennas. They should arrive around the time the transmitter rolls off the assembly line. We had hoped that if we could get everything in line, we might be on-air with a loaner transmitter before then, but that possibility has gone by the wayside because of delays getting the job quote completed. We still are planning on late July, but we’ll see.

New Station Logos
On our web site, you may have noticed that we had a contest to develop a new logo for the station -- one that would incorporate our new call letters from the repeater in Orleans, WFMR, at 91.3 on your FM dial. The contest ended May 21st and we accepted two new logos: a “fun” fish, developed by Gretchen Tanzer, head of the art department of Cape Cod Academy, and a more formal one, designed by Joseph Yacinski, of Yacinski Design, LLC, of Arlington, Virginia. Anticipating that the repeater might be up in June, we started planning for the fabrication of new design merchandise back in the Spring. When it was obvious that putting up the repeater was going to take longer than we had hoped, we needed to decide whether or not to delay the new merchandise schedule. We decided to go forward in order to create buzz for the kick-off of the new repeater later this summer. We now have in hand: a fish design bumper sticker, available for the asking; a new program card, also available now; two new banners (and two more coming); and a newly designed brochure. There are mock-ups of the new brochure in the office, but the actual final product is being put together by Yacinski Design and will be professionally printed a little later this summer. After we get past the big July 9th-11th weekend (see more below on this), we will be ordering cups, hats, t-shirts, and possibly, sweatshirts with the new logos.

Events: The Big July 9th-11th Weekend
Two big WOMR events are schedule for next weekend. On Friday night, July 9th, WOMR will be presenting a five-band, retro-rock concert in the big boat house out at the end of Cabral Pier in the heart of Provincetown. It is called the WOMR Outermost Shindig and you can see the poster on the home page of the web site. The essentials are: it’s being held from 6 p.m. to Midnight; $10 admission; all ages; ID wristbands for alcohol; beer, wine, water, and orange and lemon Pellegrino; music and dancing to Muck and the Mires (a Boston garage band), Jenny Dee and the Deelinquents (a Martha and the Vandellas-style girls’ singing group with a five-piece backup band), SPF4  (a Ventures- style surfer band), the legendary Spampinato Brothers from NRBQ and a reunion of the popular Cape band, The Greenheads. Come and join in the fun. On Sunday night, July 11th, WOMR is hosting a great summer concert at the Payomet in Truro with the very popular Boston-based contemporary folk music group, Crooked Still.  Doors open at 7 p.m.; music starts at 7:30 p.m. and Crooked Still goes on at 8:15 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance (thru July 9th) and $25 after that. $40 gets you reserved seating and an after-concert reception with the band.
